Welcome

The Department of Agricultural Biotechnology and Oenology was founded in 2019. It is located one kilometer south of Drama. Public transport is frequently available. The purpose of the department is to promote education and research in the highly important high-tech and internationally valued and supported field of Biotechnology. The department deals with the Biotechnology of Agricultural products, including the extremely important branch of oenology and the production of other spirits and beverages.

One of the main objectives of the department is the connection and cooperation with businesses as well as the assistance to those who wish to start their own businesses. The services of an Agricultural Biotechnology department provides services throughout the country. There are a great number of businesses in the wider range in8cluding cheese factories, breweries, olive mills, wineries, leguminous processing businesses and others. Their activities produce large quantities of remaining, theoretically useless residues, whose discharge into the environment is often infectious but from which, in fact, biotechnology can produce industrial useful components. The following are only indicative:

  • Production of plants which are resistant in stress and disease
  • Genetic certification of diversity
  • Production of antibiotics, anticancer and other drugs.
  • Production of alcohol and beverages.
  • Food preservation.
  • Mining of metals.
  • Production of antibodies, vaccines, hormones and enzymes.
  • Waste and biomass treatment
  • Production of acids, amino acids, proteins and useful industrial substances.

Our vision is to enrich our programs and integrate, in the next few years, everything related to agricultural biotechnology and oenology in higher education, providing a level of study equal to five years study in a foreign university. Also, to develop postgraduate studies and ensure the professional rights of our graduates.
