Course Contents
- Structure and function o fbiomolecules. Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids.
- Enzymes,catalysis, coenzymes and cofactors, enzyme inhibition.
- Energy metabolism in the cell. Anabolism and catabolism. Energy transport and reductive power in the cell.
- Lipid metabolism and β-oxidosis.
- Carbohydrate metabolism. Respiration and fermentation.
- Photosynthesis. Light and dark reactions.
- Nucleic acids and gene expression.
Educational Goals
With the successful completion of the course the student will:
- know the structure and function of biomolecules,
- know the basic biochemical processes in the cell,
- comprehend the mechanisms of the biochemical reactions,
- comprehend the energy transport in the cell,
- comprehend the transfer of genetic information,
- know the importance of the various biochemical processes in every-day life as well as their applications.
