Course Contents

  • Introduction (importance of agriculture, development, natural resources, Greek agriculture).
  • Cultivated plants (evolution-spread, classification, plant parts and physiological functions, plant productivity.
  • Plant and environment (soil factors, climatic factors, energy factor, water factor, atmospheric factor, biotic factors).
  • Human influence on plants (choice of crop, choice of cultivation system, choice of seed, soil treatment, fertilization, nutrients, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, etc., sowing-season, depth, means and methods, quantity, transplanting, cultivation operations from germination to harvest).
  • Harvesting – storage of products, handling, standardization and distribution of products.

Educational Goals

Introduction of students to topics concerning:

  • the evolution of agriculture in modern Greece,
  • the relationships of cultivated plants with the environment,
  • effect of cultivation techniques on plants and
  • climate effect on plant growth and development in cultivation operations from the preparation of the field for sowing to the disposal of the product.

General Skills

  • Search for, analysis and synthesis of data and information, using the necessary technologies.
  • Promotion of free, creative and inductive thinking.
  • Project planning and management.
  • Respect for the natural environment.
  • Adapting to new situations.
  • Criticism and self-criticism.

  • In the classroom, face to face.
